Ileitis Secondary to Oral Capecitabine Treatment?
نویسندگان
چکیده
The efficacy of capecitabine as adjuvant therapy in colon cancer is well demonstrated and its lower toxicity rates when compared with 5-FU make it an increasingly more favourable option for patients. This case highlights the awareness of a potentially severe side effect related to the use of capecitabine, yet through the early identification of symptoms patients can be managed conservatively.

Hepatic steatosis secondary to capecitabine: a case report
INTRODUCTION There are no known case reports of hepatic steatosis caused by oral fluoropyrimidines such as capecitabine. With increasing use of capecitabine since its approval for the treatment of metastatic colon cancer in 2001, and more recently for adjuvant treatment of colon cancer and treatment of metastatic breast cancer, we can anticipate increased recognition of potential toxicities ass...
متن کاملPhase I study of preoperative cetuximab, capecitabine, and external beam radiotherapy in patients with rectal cancer.
3552 Background: Capecitabine has the potential to replace 5-FU as standard agent in combination with radiotherapy in rectal cancer. Cetuximab is a monoclonal antibody directed against the epidermal growth factor receptor. Both agents are active in the treatment of colorectal cancer and have demonstrated radiosensitising properties. The aim of this study was to assess the feasibility of combini...
متن کاملFactors Impacting Treatment Choice in the First-Line Treatment of Colorectal Cancer
INTRODUCTION To investigate the factors that affect the choice of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) or its oral alternative, capecitabine, as first-line treatment in patients with colorectal cancer (CRC). METHODS Patients treated with 5-FU or capecitabine for CRC between January 1, 2011 and December 31, 2013 in a teaching hospital in the Sydney metropolitan area, Australia were identified using the hospi...
متن کاملIntestinal, extra-intestinal and systemic sequelae of Toxoplasma gondii induced acute ileitis in mice harboring a human gut microbiota
BACKGROUND Within seven days following peroral high dose infection with Toxoplasma gondii susceptible conventionally colonized mice develop acute ileitis due to an underlying T helper cell (Th) -1 type immunopathology. We here addressed whether mice harboring a human intestinal microbiota developed intestinal, extra-intestinal and systemic sequelae upon ileitis induction. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPA...
متن کاملSevere MRSA Enterocolitis Caused by a Strain Harboring Enterotoxins D, G, and I
We describe a case of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) enterocolitis in a healthy adult with previous antibiotic exposure. Colonoscopy revealed diffuse colitis and mild ileitis without ulceration. Stool cultures demonstrated abundant growth of MRSA and absent normal flora. Oral vancomycin treatment was effective and seems to be the consensus choice for therapy.
